Varanasi to Ayodhya Day Trip & Overnight Tour: Travel Guide & Route Tips
Connecting the City of Shiva with the Birthplace of Shri Ram
The spiritual circuit connecting Varanasi and Ayodhya has become one of the most sought-after pilgrimages in India. With newly upgraded four-lane express highways and modern high-speed rail connectivity, travelling between these two holy cities is smooth and comfortable.
Distance & Best Transit Options
- By Road (Private Cab): Distance is approximately 215 km via NH330/Purvanchal Expressway. Driving time is 4 to 4.5 hours in a comfortable chauffeur-driven sedan or SUV.
- By Train: The modern Vande Bharat Express connects Varanasi Cantt (BSB) to Ayodhya Cantt in just under 3 hours, offering early morning departures and evening returns.
Should You Do a Same-Day Return or Overnight Stay?
While a same-day trip is feasible (departing at 5:00 AM and returning by 10:00 PM), we strongly recommend an overnight stay (1 Night / 2 Days) in Ayodhya. This allows you to experience the serene evening Saryu Aarti at Ram Ki Paidi, witness the illuminated Ram Mandir at night, and visit Hanuman Garhi comfortably at dawn without rushing.
