Rameshwaram: Where Kashi Meets the Southern Sea

In Hindu pilgrimage traditions, a yatra to Kashi is traditionally consecrated and completed only after bringing holy Ganga water to perform abhishekam at Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameshwaram, and bringing sacred sand from Rameshwaram back to Triveni Sangam.

The Sacred 22 Theerthams Bath Sequence

Before entering the sanctum sanctorum, pilgrims first take a dip in the sea at Agni Theertham, followed by taking a bath in the waters of 22 sacred stone wells located within the temple precincts. Temple attendants pour a bucket of water from each numbered theertham over devotees, believed to cleanse karmic blemishes and bring immense spiritual vitality.

Architectural Grandeur & Dhanushkodi

Ramanathaswamy Temple features the longest and most spectacular pillared corridors in the world, with over 1,200 intricately sculpted granite pillars. While in Rameshwaram, exploring the ghost town of Dhanushkodi and the origin of Ram Setu (Adam’s Bridge) is an unforgettable experience.
