All-Night Char Prahar Pooja at Kashi Vishwanath
On Maha Shivratri, the sanctum sanctorum of Kashi Vishwanath remains open continuously for over 44 hours. Special Char Prahar Poojas are conducted every 3 hours through the night with milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugarcane juice, and sacred Bel leaves.
The Grand Shiv Baraat Procession
A spectacular cultural carnival known as the Shiv Baraat winds through the streets of Varanasi. Devotees dress up as gods, sages, demons, spirits, and celestial dancers, dancing ecstatically to nagada drums and damrus, embodying the all-embracing nature of Mahadev who welcomes every living being into his fold.
